OMSB Exam FAQs

They are computer-based exams run by the Oman Medical Specialty Board’s Occupational Classification Testing Section. The Ministry of Health and other government and private institutions use them for employment and licensing of healthcare professionals in Oman.

There are 23 occupational classification exams: General Practitioners (OEGP); 13 specialties (OEA, OED, OEDR, OEEM, OEENT, OEFM, OEGS, OEIM, OEOG, OEOPTH, OEORTHO, OEPEDS, OEPSY); General Dentistry (OEGD) and Orthodontists (OEORDNT); Nurses BSN (OEN) and Nursing Diploma (OEN-Diploma); Pharmacists (OEP) and Assistant Pharmacists (OEAP); and Medical Laboratory Scientists (OEMLS), Physiotherapists (OEPH) and Dietitians (OEDIET). OMSB also runs the OMRSE for residency selection.

Most exams have 100 single-best-answer MCQs in 2 hours 30 minutes. The OEGP and the OMRSE have 150 MCQs in 2 hours 45 minutes. Each exam follows a published blueprint and each domain may vary by up to ±5%.

65% for specialist physicians, general dentistry and orthodontics; 60% for OEGP, OMRSE, pharmacists and BSN nurses; 55% for assistant pharmacists, laboratory scientists, physiotherapists and dietitians; 50% for the nursing diploma.

OMSB emails results to your registered email address within 24 hours of completing the exam.

Exams are booked online through Pearson VUE. Create a web account on the OMSB page, choose your exam, accept the OMSB policies, pick a test centre and time, and pay by Visa or Mastercard. Our Registration Guide shows all 11 steps.

Candidates in Oman sit the exam at the OMSB National Test Center (Innovation Park Muscat). Candidates outside Oman can take it at Pearson VUE test centres worldwide.

Yes, at least 48 hours before your appointment through your Pearson VUE account or customer service. Late changes or no-shows forfeit the fee.

Dataflow is OMSB’s primary source verification partner. Healthcare professionals applying to work in Oman verify their degree, licence and experience through dfomsb.com; standard processing is about 35 working days and the report goes directly to OMSB.

The Oman Medical Residency Selection Examination is the prerequisite exam for entry into OMSB residency programmes: 150 single-best-answer MCQs in 2 hours 45 minutes covering women’s health, child health, medicine, public health, surgery and emergency medicine. The pass mark is 60% and the fee is USD 130.

Part I is a written exam usually taken in R2 that must be passed before R4. Part II is the final exam — a written part followed by a clinical part — which leads to the OMSB specialty certificate. We publish the official blueprints for each programme free of charge.

According to OMSB, non-Omani residents and overseas nationals can apply with a guarantee of financial sponsorship for the full duration of training, plus additional documents such as good standing and Dataflow-verified certificates.
